Caerphilly Castle will welcome the TARDIS from Tuesday 6 – Monday 12 September as part of celebrations to mark Open Doors 2011 and the BBC Proms in the Park in the town.

The arrival of Doctor Who’s world-famous blue telephone box at Caerphilly follows a recent tour of north Wales heritage sites including Caernarfon and Beaumaris Castles.

BBC Cymru Wales and Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, have been working together over a number of series to provide Doctor Who with some unusual and unique historical filming locations.

As part of Caerphilly Fringefest, held to coincide with the evening BBC Proms in the Park event, Caerphilly Castle will be free to all on Saturday 10 September (9.30am-5.30pm). A fun packed day for all the family will include the Monmouthshire Minstrels, fire wielding jesters and escapologists Fiery Jack & Marrio Morris along with dragon processions and storytelling with Alchemy. The event will also see the launch of tickets for the series of medieval banquets taking place at the Castle in early December during Illuminata 2011.
