Top Storytellers, authors and musicians will be converging on Harlech Castle and Tretower Court, Crickhowell in the last week of August for a series of events promoted by Beyond The Border Storytelling Festival and Cadw, Welsh Government’s Historic Environment Service, as part of 2017 Year of Legends.
Harlech Castle has a special place in Welsh Mythology, and from Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th August the castle walls will echo with the sound of some of Wales’ best-known storytellers retelling the myths and legends connected to this iconic place. Performers taking part will include two leading storytellers from North Wales — Dafydd Davies-Hughes and Eric Maddern.
On August Bank Holiday weekend, Tretower Court in the beautiful Usk valley will be the site of a family festival of stories and music that will also offer food, crafts, workshops, games and a licensed bar.
Among the top tellers appearing at Tretower is award-winning local storyteller and author Daniel Morden. Daniel said: “A storytelling festival at Tretower is a perfect match. When I walk through the gates it feels as though I am travelling back in time. It is such an evocative venue that half my work is already done.”
Beyond The Border’s Artistic Director David Ambrose said “We are delighted to be working with Cadw to present these events during The Year of Legends. With the help of Arts Council Wales, Beyond The Border has been developing audiences for storytelling over many years. This year is a great opportunity for us to build on that work by presenting first-class performers in some of Wales’ most beautiful historic sites”
