It’s affectionately known as the fairy tale castle and as from today (Tuesday, December 1) those travelling along the A470 can marvel at Wales’s very own ‘ice palace’ after the Welsh Government turned the iconic Castell Coch blue in the run up to Christmas 2015.
The castle has been given the icy makeover as part of the Welsh Government’s ‘Out of this world adventures’ Christmas campaign.
The campaign, which also saw the release of this stunning night time lapse video, was launched to promote Cadw gift membership in the run-up to Christmas.
Gift memberships start from £16 and offer unlimited access to Cadw sites across Wales.
Ken Skates, Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said: “Year round, Wales’s historic sites fuel our imaginations and, for Christmas, we wanted to create a striking visual effect children and adults can enjoy.
“We always look at new ways of bringing our incredible heritage to life and hope the installation at Castell Coch creates yet another way for people to appreciate this fascinating site.”
