Castell Coch

Wales’s fairytale castle, Castell Coch, is set to welcome Disney favourite Frozen this October, as the Welsh Government’s historic environment service (Cadw) collaborates with Chapter Arts Centre to host unique singalong film screenings at the site to the delight of families across Wales.

Complete with a lively sing-along warm up from Welsh National Opera musicians, the event will see the phenomenally popular fairytale film light up a one-of-a-kind silver screen within the grounds of the enchanting fairytale castle.

Families are invited to join the magic on 21 October, and again at Caerphilly Castle, Wales’s largest castle on November 19. Tickets can be booked via the Chapter Arts Centre website.

The screenings play part of a programme of numerous pop-up cinema events taking place across weekends in October (21–22) and November (18–19) in partnership with Chapter Arts Centre, Film Hub Wales, Welsh National Opera and University of South Wales.

The range of screenings include Disney princess classic Cinderella, as well as Little Shop of Horrors, Ghostbusters and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Science and Transport, said: “It is fantastic to witness the coupling of cinema and heritage to help bring these magical stories to life.

“Taking cinema into the grounds of an inspiring monument not only allows people to see our iconic sites in a different light, but helps turn something as ordinary as watching a film into an exciting and joyous occasion for all the family.”

During the screenings Welsh food wizards Dusty Knuckle Pizza will also pop up on site to deliver pizza, snacks and drinks to hungry cinemagoers.

Though there is warmth to be had in the tales of magic and mayhem it may not be enough to stave off the autumn chill of these all-but outdoor screenings, so visitors are advised to dress warmly.

To book tickets to the screenings visit www.chapter.org or call the box office on 02920 304 400.

For more information about the events visit www.gov.wales/cadw, or view the video from previous screenings online.
