Harlech Castle — building our new visitor centre

From summer 2015 visitors to Harlech Castle will start their experience in a new visitor centre. Upon arrival, they will be greeted with state-of-the-art interpretation that will enhance their visits and help them to follow the story of the castle and its inhabitants through more than 800 years of history.

About the visitor centre project

The project to build Harlech Castle's new visitor centre is likely to take 14 months, with the opening of the new centre expected in the summer of 2015.

Harlech Castle will remain open during the work and the site's exciting events programme will continue. However, during construction there will be limited public car parking space adjacent to the castle with most of the existing car park being used as the contractor’s compound.

Materials and services will also need to be delivered to the site — but arrangements are in place so that as much of this as possible will take place outside core business hours to limit disruption to local residents, businesses and visitors.

The project is funded by the Welsh Government with support from European Union Convergence Funds.
