Cadw has announced that Jon Pountney will be artist in residence at Castell Coch, near Cardiff, from May to July 2016.

Jon Pountney is an artist and photographer, best known for his project ‘Cardiff before Cardiff’. The work was based on a found archive and later became a major exhibition at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Speaking about the appointment, Dr Ffion Reynolds, Cadw’s Heritage and Arts Manager, said:  'Jon will be responding to Castell Coch in an innovative way – using the theme of photography, a technology that was fast becoming a popular activity across the world in the late 19th century, around the same time that the re-building of Castell Coch was coming to an end’.

‘Jon proposes to use the theme of the ‘lens’ as a starting point for his project, opening up a range of ways to ‘view’ Castell Coch, and we hope that this will create opportunities for the public to see Castell Coch is a completely new way.’

A public event will be held at the end of his residency in July.
