Bronllys Castle — Repairs and Consolidation Works

Cadwraeth Cymru recently completed repair and consolidation works on the medieval fireplace and door entrance arch within the thirteenth-century round tower at Bronllys on the Welsh Marches. High level medieval masonry forming the fireplace hearth had laminated and deteriorated badly over recent years, mainly due to severe weather conditions over the winter months of 2009–10.

The round tower entrance inner masonry arch had also progressively become unstable. Cadw deemed the repair works a priority to prevent further loss of historical detail and to address any safety concerns relating to the possibility of falling masonry fragments.
