Townscape Heritage Initiative and Town Scheme Partnerships

The aim of the Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is to regenerate run-down historic conservation areas while Town Scheme Partnerships (TSPs) aim to to restore the appearance of historic towns and to encourage regeneration.

Townscape Heritage Initiative

The Heritage Lottery Fund's Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) aims to regenerate run-down historic conservation areas through historic building repair. The initiatives are resourced through a common fund on a partnership basis. The Heritage Lottery Fund generally contributes 75 per cent and other partners include Cadw, local authorities and other organisations.  Cadw is involved as a funding partner in all the schemes in Wales and these are led by the respective local authority.

The programme is designed to address problems in areas of particular social and economic need and to improve the quality of life for all those who live, work or visit there.  You can find out more on the website of the Heritage Lottery Fund by clicking on the following link:

Town Scheme Partnerships

Town Scheme Partnerships (TSPs) aim to restore the appearance of historic towns and to encourage regeneration.  The scheme provides for local planning authorities to enter into an agreement with Cadw to allocate funds jointly for the repair of buildings within a defined area within the local authority.

Local authorities identify particular buildings in conservation areas which would benefit from assistance and agree works in accordance with an agreed delivery strategy.
