Join Cadw for an Easter of Centuries Past

Friday 16 February 2018

Caerphilly Castle

This Easter, Cadw invites guests to hop along to their nearest site to enjoy some festive fun with a difference.

Between 30 March and 15 April, visitors from across Wales can experience everything from Easter Egg hunts to archery and even a mighty medieval birthday bash.

Sweet-toothed explorers are invited to put on their thinking caps as they’re led on a hunt around one of a number of sites (Blaenavon Ironworks, Caerleon Roman Baths, Caernarfon Castle, Chepstow Castle, Cilgerran Castle, Criccieth Castle, Denbigh Castle, Harlech Castle, Laugharne Castle, Oxwich Castle, Plas Mawr, Rhuddlan Castle, Strata Florida Abbey and Tretower Court and Castle) to discover treasure hidden by the mischievous Easter Bunny.

For those who’d rather swap chocolate for chivalry, Beaumaris Castle will transport visitors back 700 years with the help of its warrior knights, giving them a taste of life in Medieval Wales.

Meanwhile, Tintern Abbey will take visitors back to a time gone by with an exhibition of photography from the turn of the nineteenth century, highlighting the extensive conservation works undertaken to preserve the picture-perfect monument loved by many today.
And among the Easter fun, there’s a celebration to be had at Caerphilly Castle. To mark the mighty fortress’s 750th birthday, esteemed guests are invited to cheer as knights march through the town and are challenged to pick their side as the two camps do battle.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Lord Elis-Thomas said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer such a varied itinerary of Easter events this year, from family fun to historic re-enactments, there’s bound to be something for everyone.

“We look forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike to celebrate the occasion with us, while taking in Wales’s rich history at some of our most impressive sites.”
