Open Doors - The Guildhall Tavern, Denbigh
This three-storied 17th century structure consists of two separate buildings, with a rear courtyard containing a former carriage-housing. Known as The Bull Hotel since 1830s, former names include The Black Bull and The Guildhall Tavern (a name now re-adopted). At the siege of Denbigh Castle, during the Civil War, it is believed to have been the general’s headquarters. A fine well staircase (17th century) rises full height to the attic floor: the carved gloves which appear on each of the newel posts are a reminder that Denbigh was a leading centre of the glove trade throughout the 16th and 17th centuries.
The 2025 Denbigh Open Doors Weekend launches Friday 19th September 2025 with an evening lecture exploring property deeds at the Theatr Twm o'r Nant.
