The Clock Tower in St Peter’s Square is also known as the Peers Memorial/Monument. It was built in 1883 to commemorate Joseph Peers who was Clerk of the Peace for Denbighshire for 50 years. It was designed by the eminent Chester architect John Douglas in a distinctive Jacobean style using bands of sandstone and limestone. It also incorporated interesting architectural features, such as statues of St David and St George, menacing beasts and a water trough for the animals. It has recently been restored to a very high standard by R Moore Building Conservation Ltd.

Apart from the Clock Tower being able to be viewed from the outside during the weekend, there is an opportunity to have peak inside the door of the north side of the tower on Saturday from 11.00am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 4.00pm. There will be short talks at 11am and 3.00pm about the clock tower. Access inside was required to the original Joyce clock mechanism which needed to be wound up. This mechanism is on display in the Old Courthouse, as well as books for sale about the history and restoration of the Clock Tower.
