This is one of only two churches dedicated to the 5th century St Hychan. The Llanychan parish is the smallest (567 acres) in the Diocese of St Asaph. This ancient single chamber church is mentioned as far back as 1254.

The building was extensively restored to a high quality in 1878 and has a Gothic-style south window dating back to 1626. The church is entered by the south porch, a two-bay timber-framed structure in the Arts and Crafts manner. The nave is single with a fine feature 15th century timber-framed roof in seven bays.

The Denbigh Open Doors Weekend opens on the evening of Thursday 14 September at 18:00 with a lecture at the Theatr Twm o'r Nant, with an historic film matinee at the same venue at 14:00 on Friday 15 September. Over the following two days; Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th September 2023, twentyfive historically important sites in the locale will be open to the public. A booking service for the sites and guided tours with a limited number of places will be available through either Denbigh Library (The main Information hub for the event) or Cadw (Denbigh Castle) nearer the time.
