St Madoc’s Church is a small, mostly medieval church, built on the site of a religious community founded in 583AD by St Madoc (also known as St Aidan) in a small, wooded valley near the coast.

Although restored in 1883, it retains much of the 12th-13th century foundations and walls, as well as a medieval font. Stained glass artwork includes memorials from the First World War and a 20th century depiction of St Madoc.

Closed by the Church in Wales in 2022, it remains a simple, atmospheric church with its origins in the Age of Saints.

For Open Doors, the church will be open between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September, with members of the local community talking about their fight to save the church, as well as the history of St Madoc and the church.

Greenala have kindly agreed to play medieval music during the event.

A walk will also take place on both Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September. The walking group will leave from the Pembrokeshire National Park Authority Car Park (outside the YHA) at 11am and walk through Haroldston Woods to St Madoc’s Church. After soft drinks at St Madoc’s, the party will follow the old path to view 14th century Williamston Farm with its rare Baltic timber marks, returning to Broad Haven by 4pm. Please bring a packed lunch. See website (https://stmadocofferns.wales/) for further details.

No booking required.
