This historic 14th century church was built on the site of the original Bede House (House of Prayer) beside the River Conwy on the edge of the village of Betws-y-Coed.

It contains a stone effigy of Gruffydd ap Dafydd Goch, grandson of Dafydd, the brother of Llewelyn ap Gruffydd, the last native Prince of Wales.

It also contains a Norman font, and two wooden panels each side of the altar which have the Lord's Prayer and the Apostles Creed in Welsh.

It is believed that the altar came from the Friars School in Bangor.

The church was enlarged in 1843 when the gallery at the west end was removed.

The church will be open daily throughout September (10am - 5pm).

There will be the annual Flower Festival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 6, 7 and 8 September. Admission is free but donations would be appreciated.

If for any reason the church is closed, a key is normally available from the nearby Conwy Valley Railway Museum.

Address - St Michael’s Old Church, Old Church Road, Betws-y-Coed, LL24 0AL.

Directions - Turn off the main A5 Holyhead Road in the village of Betws-y-Coed opposite the Pendyffryn Stores. The church is at the bottom of this road adjacent to the Conwy Valley Railway Museum, a golf course and caravan park.

Not wheelchair accessible unless a steward is on duty.

Stewards will be available throughout the Flower Festival period.
