Open Doors - St. Trillos Church, Llandrillo yn Rhos
St. Trillos is reputedly the oldest church in North Wales. It was originally built as a private chapel for Edneved Vychan who lived in the now ruined Llys Euryn, becoming the parish church for the area when the original parish church was submerged by the sea in the 8th/9th century. Parts of the building go back to the 12the century, although a number of significant extensions have been added over the centuries. Its extensive graveyard contains the graves of a number of people significant to the development of Colwyn Bay.
The Church will be open from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Friday the 19th, Saturday 20th, and Sunday 21st September 2025. A heritage exhibition will be prepared relating to the geology of the area and the history of the church. Heritage talks will be given from time to time and there will be occasional tours of the most interesting graves. An exhibition of paintings, both historical and more recent, will be displayed, and appropriate music played throughout. Prayers will be offered at points throughout the day for those who wish, and focused services of worship will be held at stated times on the Sunday. Extensive local publicity will be given.
