Open Doors - St. Tudno's Church, Llandudno
Set on a windswept slope of the Great Orme, overlooking the sea, the ancient Church of St. Tudno is a place of pilgrimage, peace and prayer. Founded by St. Tudno in the 6th century and giving the town of Llandudno its name, the present building dates from the 12th - 15th centuries.
Features include a 12th century font, 14th century grave covers and 15th century carvings, while the Victorian and early 20th century stained glass includes some fine examples of the manufacturers' works. The churchyard contains many interesting graves and is managed to encourage wildlife.
The church is a very active place of worship, with open air services held throughout the Summer.
Visitors are very welcome to join the open-air services at 12.30pm on Sundays 7, 14 and 21 September. After each of these services, the Friends of St. Tudno’s Church will offer refreshments and will be available all afternoon to talk about the church and churchyard. Please note, there will be no service etc on Sunday 28 September but the church will still be open.
There will be an art exhibition in the church from Monday 22 to Thursday 25 September (inclusive), from 10.30 am – 4.00 pm. This will be watercolour landscapes by R.N. Clarke, who will be at the church to talk about his work.
The church will also be open every day from 10am to 5pm.

There are two routes to drive or cycle to St. Tudno’s Church, both with steep hills.
Route 1 - At the top of Upper Mostyn Street cross over to Ty Gwyn Road by the Empire Hotel. Continue up Ty Gwyn Road, straight across at the traffic lights, to the tram Half Way Station. Just beyond the Half Way Station, turn right into St. Tudno’s Road. Continue on St. Tudno’s Road. (NB The Great Orme Cemetery Chapel will be seen before St. Tudno’s Church.)
Route 2 - From the roundabout on North Parade take Happy Valley Road to the Toll House and Marine Drive. Continue around Marine Drive past the first promontory and the road to St. Tudno’s is on the left. (NB Marine Drive is one-way and there is a toll for driving on the road.)
The No. 26 bus from Llandudno stops at the tram Halfway Station and the Great Orme Summit, from where there are downhill walks to the church.
There are steps up into the churchyard from the parking area below the church, but step-free
access is possible via the Great Orme Cemetery. However, there is a smooth path down from the lychgate above the church and room for one car to pull over.
No booking required.
