During July and August this year, two public dome experiences will be hosted by Cadw at Raglan Castle and Beaumaris Castle, as part of the wider Visit Wales ‘Year of Trails’ initiative.
Raglan Castle: 27 July – 2 August 10am–4pm
Beaumaris Castle: 18 – 24 August 10am–4pm
Visitors can fly across Wales whilst watching a stunning showcase of Cadw sites in our pop-up immersive dome, and then follow a trail of photospherical sculptures at Cadw sites across Wales.
The immersive dome will feature a newly commissioned film, entitled ‘From the Shadows of Stones’, which showcases the very best of Cadw’s heritage sites, from abbeys and castles, to burial chambers using the latest high-definition 360° capturing technology.
The final piece, premiering at Raglan Castle on the 27 of July, looks at Wales’s stunning heritage and beautiful historic environment and has been created by 4Pi Productions. Dome experts 4Pi, will be building a 7m diameter pop-up dome, that will allow audiences to enjoy the film from reclining chairs viewing a 360-degree screen above them with surround sound.
As the latest project at Cadw, which brings art and heritage together, the public will then be able to visit a trail of photographical spheres across another nine Cadw sites, including: two religious monuments, Tintern and Valle Crucis abbeys; two prehistoric sites, Din Lligwy Hut Group and Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber; four medieval castles at Beaumaris, Castell y Bere, Raglan and Caernarfon and the two industrial sites of Blaenavon Ironworks and Porthgain Harbour in Pembrokeshire.
At each site, 4Pi have captured high-definition 360° viewpoints that have been fabricated into photographic sculptures and will be brought back to their place of origin for a few days each. By being placed for a few days each in their respective landscapes, the spheres allow audiences a chance to view Wales’s heritage in the round.
No advance booking is required for the ‘From the Shadows of Stones’ immersive dome experience, but please be aware you might need to queue for a short time.
