Public Liability

Public Liability Insurance is required by businesses and individuals for events and activities that have the potential to affect third parties (members of the public, visitors, trespassers, sub-contractors etc. who may be physically injured or who may damage the property).

Many event organisers looking to put on events or arrange activities such as filming at Cadw sites will be asked to provide a copy of their Public Liability Insurance certificate.

Most businesses, charities, schools and universities have Public Liability Insurance in place to cover the events in question – and we simply ask the organiser to provide a copy for our records!

If you’re an individual or a community group organising an event at a Cadw sites and do not have Public Liability Insurance, this can be purchased easily online for a relatively low cost. Use price comparison websites to get the best deal to suit your needs.

Public Liability Insurance of up to £5m is required for all activities at Cadw sites, however if you’re holding a community event which fits in with our criteria, and participants will be paying regular admission fees to visit the monument, you do not need to provide us with Public Liability Insurance.

If in doubt we would recommend purchasing insurance to cover your event.

Our location agreement can be downloaded from this page – and we require everyone carrying out events and activities at our sites to agree to this.

We can raise any queries with our legal team, however we can’t promise that we’ll be able to adapt the agreement to suit your needs, and please be aware that legal issues will result in your application taking more time to process.
