The sound of song can be heard echoing through one of Wales’s most magical sites this Christmas in a stunning new advert released today (12 December) by the Welsh Government’s historic environment service (Cadw).

In perfect harmony, Cardiff-based male voice choir, Cor Meibion Taf, give a rendition of Tawel Nos (Silent Night), while dressed in festive jumpers and woolly hats.
Filmed in the drawing room of the country’s fairytale castle, Castell Coch, the advert sees the choir, who have regularly performed at the Millennium Stadium before international rugby matches, against a glistening backdrop of lights and dazzling 19th century architecture.

The video marks the end of a hugely successful year for Cadw, which witnessed a record number of visitors during the summer of 2017 — partly attributed to the organisation’s Live the Legends campaign — which brought a family of Dragons to life as part of Wales’s Year of Legends.

Now, combined with a dash of festive sparkle, Cadw hopes that the public will be inspired to visit Wales’s historic sites while celebrating two of the country’s most cherished qualities, heritage and song, as it gets ready for the countdown to Christmas.

Minster for Culture, Dafydd Elis-Thomas, said: “This year has been a triumph for Cadw, with record visitor figures demonstrating the public’s continued interest in Welsh history.
“Capturing a male voice choir in one of the country’s most beautiful landmarks is the perfect way to honour this, and we hope that the advert will bring Christmas cheer to the people of Wales and beyond, while encouraging both new and returning visitors to experience their local sites in 2018.”

Cadw gift membership is available from £18 a year and can be purchased up until 14 December to arrive in time for Christmas.
