Richy Rhodes and Deborah Sagar are well known for their popular café, Bonta Deli, which was established in central Caernarfon in 2018. Since opening in the grounds of Castell Caernarfon in February 2022, their pop-up kiosk, Coffi Castell, has been a similar hit with visitors.
From the Snowdonia cheese used in their sandwiches to the array of Anglesey-produced ice cream on offer, there’s something for everyone.
New for 2023 – the team have now opened the King’s Gate Café situated in the majestic tower with lift access to breath-taking roof-top views of the Welsh coastline.
Cardiff boy and tearoom manager, Lewys Wootten, became a part of the visitor experience at Castell Coch in July 2022.
Many might recognise Lewys from his time running a successful coffee shop in Llandaff North, Cardiff, before venturing to Wales’ fairytale castle.
Lewys is proud to be showcasing the best local produce to his visitors, from the fairtrade coffee beans delivered by Hard Lines Coffee to daily deliveries of fresh milk from Castle Farm in Newport.
Meanwhile, visitors highly recommend the bacon and laverbread toasted sandwich with Pembrokeshire Seaweed Ketchup or the ham and Caerphilly cheese panini with Halen Mon Smokey Honey Mustard as the perfect post-exploring bite.
Owner Freya Bentham opened Caffi Castell in 2015 and it’s safe to say that, after seven years in business, this hill-top café is a staple of the Harlech community.
Not only has it served locals and visitors during this time, the café has also created valuable employment opportunities for the people of Gwynedd.
From hearty breakfasts to light bites and afternoon treats, Caffi Castell is committed to using only the best local suppliers.
Their barista coffee, for example, is sourced from Ffa Da and is the perfect accompaniment to Freya's homemade cakes and scones.
