Car parks
Castell Coch offers free parking for visitors to the castle. Most of the parking is in front of the castle, with a moderate incline up to the entrance which is uneven in places and has two flights of steps (one 6 steps and the other round 12).
There is also an upper car park in line with the castle with 3 accessible parking bays. It is a short flat walk/push to the drawbridge. Vehicles can drop off at the drawbridge with prior notice, please call 02920 810101.
The only entrance into the castle is via a steep wooden drawbridge with wooden slats. Wheelchair users may be able to ascend the gradient on the drawbridge, however this is dependent on the wheelchair type and individual circumstances. For more information about the drawbridge please call 02920 810101.
Tickets can be purchased from the admissions hut on entering the castle courtyard (after the drawbridge), which is uneven in places with a stone cobble surface. The gift shop is accessed from the courtyard via 6 downward steps with handrail on one side. The shop has a low counter.
Toilets: there are 2 toilets on the ground floor enter via a ramp. The toilets are narrow and have a narrow entrance. There are baby changing facilities onsite which are accessed up a flight of 20 steps (narrowest section 60cm).
Ground Floor Well Tower Toilet:
Door - 72cm wide, 183cm high / Room at narrowest - 70cm wide / Toilet area - 68cm wide
First Floor Well Tower Toilet:
Door - 66cm wide, 198cm high / Room at narrowest - 81cm wide / Toilet area - 81cm wide
Courtyard Toilet:
Door - 81cm wide, 204cm high / Room at narrowest (sink to wall) - 57cm wide
There is a cobbled courtyard on the ground floor with limited views of the inner castle walls only. All inner rooms of the castle are accessible via steps only. There are many steps to negotiate throughout the floors at Castle Coch with wheelchair access available to the courtyard area only (if able to ascend the bridge into the courtyard). The staircases are steep in places and there are narrow doorways throughout the site.
The entire castle is made up of a circular curtain wall, and 3 towers of spiral staircases. However, three of the originally decorated rooms can be viewed on the first floor after one straight flight of stairs. The tallest tower is the keep and if only able to see one tower, it is the most worthwhile.
There are regular seating opportunities around site, with something in almost every room as well as the courtyard.
