Specific environmental interest (e.g. surrounding scenery, landscape, seasonal wildlife)

Visitors to Caerphilly will see a wide variety of wildlife in and around the castle moat.

In addition to the resident geese, ducks, and carp you might be lucky enough to spot Coots, Moorhens, Cormorants, Herons and Kingfishers busy at the water’s edge, as well as smaller birds such as Wagtails and Sand Martins.

Rarer sightings include an American Mink* and also a slow worm swimming on the moat on a hot summer’s day!
