Open Doors - Beili Du Chapel, Pentre-bach, Sennybridge

Beili Du is a Grade II-listed building and an excellent example of a long-wall chapel in a rural location, retaining joinery finished in painted imitation graining, typical of its date. The cause was founded in 1790 and a parcel of land belonging to Beili Du Farm was leased to the trustees in 1800.

The present chapel was rebuilt in 1858, its whitewashed rubble long-wall design quite old-fashioned for its date. The interior is barely touched by Victorian fashion, including the tub-like pulpit.

Directions - heading towards Brecon on the A40 through Sennybridge, as you are exiting Sennybridge, take the left turning signposted Pentre-bach and Pentre'r Felin. Follow the road past SENTA and continue until you reach Pentre'r Felin. Turn right over the bridge, following signs to Pentre-bach and Country Pub. Continue along the road without turning off until you reach Pentre-bach. As you approach the village you will see Beili Du Chapel across the valley on your left. Once in the village, there will be parking outside the Shoemakers Arms. To visit the chapel, cross the small concrete bridge just before the car park and follow the lane to the chapel.
