Open Doors - Castell Trefadog

On a coastal promontory, defended by a deep ditch and earthen bank, is the site of a single, large building, the foundations of which were revealed during archaeological excavation in the 1980s. The site appears to have had the sea as its focus rather than the land, and is thought to have been established in the early­ medieval period, possibly by Vikings.

Visitors will be led on a tour of the site and hear about its excavation in the 1980s by the late David Longley, former Director of the Gwynedd Archaeological Trust, and the recently completed clearance and conservation works.

Saturday 19 September - tours will be at 1pm and 3pm.

 Sunday 20 September - tours will be at 11am and 1pm. 

Meet at the monument. No booking required.

Directions - The site is accessible via a permissive path from the public road. Please park on verge at T-junction and walk downhill on the Wales Coast Path towards Porth Trefadog. The site is not accessible via public transport
