Open Doors - Cynon Valley Museum

Cynon Valley museum is located in Aberdare on the site of the former Gadlys Ironworks. The permanent exhibition explores the social and industrial history of the Cynon Valley. There are also two temporary exhibition spaces where displays change regularly. There is a café on site. The space for the event is on the first floor of the museum, and is accessible by stairs or by lift.

Cynon Valley Museum holds quilts associated with the Rural Industries Bureau, and their 1930s scheme of training women in the South Wales Valleys to produce high-quality whole cloth quilts, to be sold in London establishments such as Claridge's. This event offers to opportunity to handle these quilts up close and to learn about the significance of the RIB scheme that helped women to earn money at a time of economic deprivation. Researcher Katherine Gough will be giving a talk about her grandmother, Sarah Marion Davies, who was a quilting teacher for the RIB.
