This is one of the few civic buildings in Britain constructed entirely during the First World War. It was designed as a combined town hall, market hall and fire station. It was designated a grade 11* listed building, being a good example of a fine early-20th century public building of bold and sophisticated design, well-detailed and with added interest of the relatively early use of reinforced concrete. The council chamber is located on the first floor to the rear of the building, and it still functions as the Denbigh Town Council meeting room and headquarters.

The 2024 Denbigh Open Doors Weekend launches Friday 20 September 2024 with a geology evening lecture at the Theatr Twm o'r Nant. Over the following two days, Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 September 2024 from 10am to 5pm, around thirty historically important sites in the locale will be open to the public, supplemented by children’s workshops and guided tours. A booking service for the sites/workshops and guided tours offering a limited number of places will be available through Denbigh Library, closer to the start of the weekend.
