Llanhilleth Miners Institute is a Grade 2 listed building which stills operates as a thriving community centre, event venue and site of historical interest. Opened in 1906, this year sees the 120th anniversary of Llanhilleth Miners Institute and we are celebrating our history with a programme of unique events which are taking place throughout the year. The Institute retains the majority of its original features and is set over three floors, with the large Ithel Hall serving as a stunning centre piece and our small Heritage centre offering visitors the chance to look at artefacts and photos and records of interest.

On the 6th September 2026 we will be offering free guided tours of the Institute which highlight historic details and bring to life the social history of the building. There will also be a special exhibition on display in our Ebbw Fach room, which contains the new celebration mural we have launched in March 2026. In addition to this, we also hope to offer free creative workshops to children and young people which will engage them in the history of the building and bring its history to life.

We are hosting guided tours of the building led by members of the Institute team and offering heritage themed craft workshops for children and young people. Our cafe will be open to serve heritage themed dishes and we will also be inviting local performers to sing in the main hall.

Booking will only be required for the tours of the building and the children's activity workshops. Our existing Eventbrite system will be used to book spaces on these activities for no charge. There will be several timeslots for both the tours and the children's workshops (approx 6 for both). Further information/ booking details will be on our Facebook page, on 01495 400204 or on enquiries@llanhillethinstitute.com
