Open Doors - Myddleton College

In 1853, a trust established from the fortune of Thomas Howell - a 16th century merchant - built this school in an austere, continental late-gothic collegiate style. The impressive property, now known as Myddleton College, features five magnificent grade-2-listed structures. This includes the later NE wing housing the science block and quadrangle built in 1914. This elegant 20th century interpretation of the collegiate gothic style gives the main school buildings their stylistic integrity. Also, three dormitory blocks from about 1930 are listed as exemplifying an inter-war school architecture, a modernist paring-down of the free gothic style.

The 2026 Denbigh Open Doors Weekend launches on Friday 18 September with a self-drive Tour of the Vale, followed by an evening lecture at Theatr Twm o'r Nant, “Restoring and repositioning Brookhouse Mill for the future”. Over the following two days, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, thirty historically important sites in the locale will be open to the public. This will be supplemented by children’s workshops, guided tours and an interactive show. A booking service for events with limited places will be available through Denbigh Library, closer to the weekend. Further information will be available at -

Directions - from the Library/Guildhall Tavern walk down the steep Park Street past Bryn y Parc and after 100 metres take the first right into Peakes Lane. Middleton College gates can be found a short distance straight ahead.
Bus stops in the town centre are serviced by the 51/52 service from Rhyl, Ruthin and Wrexham.
