Open Doors - St Mary's & Christ Church, Llanfairfechan
This is a Grade II Listed building. It opened as 'Christ Church' in 1864 to serve English speaking Anglicans in Llanfairfechan. In 1999, following the closure of the old parish church, St Mary's Church, where Welsh services were held, the building was rededicated as 'St Mary's & Christ Church'. Today the church is part of Bro Dwylan Ministry Area within the Diocese of Bangor and, together with Eglwys Dewi Sant (Penmaenmawr) and St Gwynin's Church (Dwygyfylchi), it serves the bilingual communities of Aber, Llanfairfechan, Penmaenmawr and Dwygyfylchi.
The building will be open to the public on Saturday 12 September between 10am and 4pm. There will be an opportunity to learn about the origins and history of Christianity in Aber and Llanfairfechan, to see the stained-glass windows and other features of the building, and to chat to some of the parishioners about the work and mission of Bro Dwylan, remembering that the Church is first and foremost the people and not the building.
