Open Doors - Stori Brymbo,The Old Iron and Steelworks
Stori Brymbo is a site of industrial heritage significance, being once the home of thriving coal, iron and steel industry operations. The Stori Brymbo visitor attraction is due to open to the public in Spring 2026 and will tell the story of a 300-million-year journey from a carboniferous forest, through innovative industrialisation that exploited the remnants of that forest, through the demise of industry and to the present day reinvention of the site. Stori Brymbo features a world first live excavation of the 300-million-year old fossilised trees, preserved in extraordinary detail.
In recognition of the support received from Cadw to help get this project live, there will be a special Open Doors event. Nine months prior to the opening of the whole visitor attraction, you'll get a sneaky peek at the live paleontological excavation underway on the fossil forest. You'll have the opportunity to chat with the excavation team and see the latest finds and the stories they tell.
N.B. The site is located on a hill, and the path is loose gravel and fairly steep. It may not be suitable for everyone to access (to discuss your specific access needs, please email tom.hughes@brymboheritage.co.uk).
