Open Doors - The Town Hall, Laugharne
The Town Hall is on the top of the old Market Hall and is situated on Laugharne's cobbled market square. There is a Court Room, and also a clock tower. The town hall is the home of the ancient Corporation of Laugharne, which was created by Charter in 1290. There are extensive written records of the affairs of the Corporation over the centuries.
For Open Doors, there will be a visit to the Court Room and an explanation of the Charter, the Office of Portreeve and other officers of the Court, and an overview of the present workings and duties of the Corporation which now acts as a charity.
Address: The Town Hall, Market Street, Laugharne, SA33 4SA.
The Town Hall is in the middle of the town just before Laugharne Castle. Travelling from St Clears it is where the main road drops down to the Grist square. Parking is available in the area under the castle at the Strand car park. The Town Hall is a white-washed building, distinguishable by its clock tower with cupola.
The Court Room is accessed via a straight set of stone steps with a handrail. There is an accessible toilet at the top of the stairs or there are public toilets a short walk away on Wogan Street.
