Open Doors - Wales Broadcast Archive, National Library of Wales

The Wales Broadcast Archive is housed in the National Library of Wales, and it preserves and provides  access to the radio and television heritage of Wales. Located at the National Library of Wales, the archive contains thousands of hours of programmes that convey the history, culture and everyday life of Wales over a century. The collection is a unique resource for researchers, communities and the public.

Come and visit the Wales Broadcast Archive during Open Doors 2026. There will be an opportunity to see unique materials from the broadcasting collections, learn how the archive preserves Welsh radio and television programmes, and enjoy a selection of clips that reflect the rural life and agricultural communities of Wales. Part of the wider celebrations of Archives Wales Alive, the event will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Wales' broadcasting heritage.

If traveling from the north, through Machynlleth, the Library is on the left when coming down Penglais Hill, just after the University.

If traveling from the south, through Aberaeron, take the second exit at Penparcau roundabout which takes you down Penparcau hill. At the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, take the fourth exit towards Llanbadarn Fawr. Before entering Llanbadarn, take the left turn along Llanbadarn Road, passing Penweddig School on your left. At the end of that road, turn right up Penglais Hill. The Library is on your right after Bronglais Hospital.

If traveling on the A44, from Llangurig, take a left at the first exit at Llanbadarn, then a right at the second exit along Llanbadarn Road. You will pass Penweddig School on the left, before taking a right turn up Penglais Hill at the end of the road. The Library is on your right after Bronglais Hospital.

Aberystwyth Train Station is located in the centre of the town. It takes approximately 15m-20m to walk to the Library from there. It is also possible to get a taxi from outside the Station.

Buses T2 and T28 stop at Bronglais Hospital and the University, both just a few minutes' walk from the Library.
