New this year: Powis Castle and Garden, Powis Estates, Welshpool Town Council, Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway and Y Lanfa Museum have teamed up under the umbrella of Visit Welshpool to provide a comprehensive programme of events for Open Doors 2026.

Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway -
There will be talks on the history of the line and the engines in the Display Shed at Welshpool Raven Square Station at 11am and 2pm on both days, as well as guide-led walking tours of the old town section of the line in Welshpool at 11.30am and 2.30pm on both days, meeting at Welshpool Raven Square Station no later than 10 minutes before the tours start.

Please note that travelling on the railway itself is not included in the Open Doors programme, although Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway is offering discounted rail tickets. 

Powis Castle and Garden will open its doors for free on Sat 12 and Sun 13 September. The garden will be open 10am – 5pm while the castle is open 11am – 3.30pm (last entry at 3pm). No booking needed.

The historic Welshpool Town Hall will open its doors on Sat 12 and Sun 13 September between 9.30am and 4pm. Don’t miss this chance to look around the Assembly Chamber, the Court Room and cells, the Council Chamber and the Judges Retiring Room. No booking needed.

Y Lanfa Library and Museum will welcome visitors on Sat 12 and Sun 13 September from 9.30am to 3.00pm.

Free parking will be available in Church Street car park (SY21 7DD) on both days.

Directions - by road
Welshpool Raven Square station (postcode for Raven Square is SY21 7LT) is at the west end of the town (follow the brown signs or A458 Machynlleth / Dolgellau).

There is plenty of free parking at Welshpool station.

By rail
The station (Welshpool Raven Square) is about 1 mile from the mainline (Shrewsbury – Machynlleth – Aberystwyth / Pwllheli) station. Passengers arriving by rail should head towards the centre of town and continue straight ahead at the crossroads. Beyond here the road begins to climb before eventually dropping back down to the roundabout at Raven Square.
