Consider how you might use your chosen heritage space to enable learners to discover more about their cultural heritage, using activities both on site and in school / club across different Areas of Learning and Experience.

Maybe with a class, year group, or club you could:

  • Research the materials used on the site, where would they have come from and why the location.
  • Interpret the site through art, photograph, film, textiles, paintings, music or poetry – See Arts, Crafts & Creativity | Cadw (gov.wales)
  • Make a film about your site Filming History.pdf (gov.wales) and showcase it on Peoples Collection Wales Casgliad y Werin Cymru – People’s Collection Wales.
  • Storyboard the history of the site, or that of a particular event, or character – using Cadw Comic Art | Cadw (gov.wales)
  • Survey the site to develop mathematical skills and understanding of its height, area, and look at defences for strength and angles, and weapons for trajectory. Create a scale plan just as an archaeologist would do.
  • Discover and survey the natural environment around the monument – flowers/insects/trees/birds and create a nature map.– draw from resources like those offered by NRW and RSPB and others
  • Create a digital flower and other exciting activities and be virtual Young Custodians of Conwy Castle Young custodians of the castle | Cadw (gov.wales)
  • What period is your site from? Look at the foods, fashions, medicines, law and punishment  and more from your monuments time period.
  • Develop a school well-being trail around the site -  Maybe there is a spot to listen to nature or appreciate a view, maybe some simple safe physical exercise, or yoga. You will have your own ideas.
