Disabled People
Our historic monuments are for everyone to enjoy and as part of our commitment we’re working to improve physical and virtual access to some of the most important places in Welsh history.
One of our recent achievements is our new King’s Gate lift at Castell Caernarfon which now enables all visitors to reach the top of the King’s Gate for the first time in centuries. With views across the spectacular north Wales landscape, it’s a feast for the senses.
We’ve also introduced a new Disabled Person Membership to help visitors access our castles, abbeys and forts as easily as possible. As part of the new scheme, disabled people will now be able to apply for a free five-year membership card to use at all Cadw monuments. Please see below for details and how to apply.
Disabled person membership
As part of our promise to ensure disabled people with all types of impairments can enjoy our historic places and feel part of our organisation, we’ve created a membership for those who are entitled to free entry to Cadw sites under our disabled person’s concession.
In line with our day admission concession, Disabled Person’s Membership allows a disabled person plus a companion to enter all Cadw staffed sites for free.
You are welcome to apply for a Disabled Person’s membership if you identify as a disabled person; our members include a range of people, such as those with:
- physical impairments
- sensory impairments
- intellectual impairments
- cognitive impairments
All Cadw sites will continue to offer the concessional day ticket for those who aren’t members or forget their card, however a Disabled Person’s Membership will streamline the admissions process, making entry to Cadw sites quicker and simpler.
Simply show your membership card at the till and you and your companion/s will be able to enjoy our sites for free. The membership will be in your name and you can bring any extra person/s on the day.
What’s more, by being a Cadw member you will receive member benefits, including our Heritage in Wales magazine, members’ newsletters, first chance to book our popular events and tours, discounted entry to English Heritage and Historic Scotland sites, plus discounts on many of Cadw’s products, including 10% off in Cadw shops.
