On 14 July 1931, a golden key was used to open Capel y Tabernacl, a beautiful new chapel for the
Welsh-speaking community of Porthcawl. The chapel remains a place of worship to this day, with Sunday services in Welsh at 11.15am run by the Annibynwyr (Welsh Congregationalists).

Grade-II listed, the chapel features art deco motifs, impressive woodwork and a large stained-glass window, as well as a gallery which, unusually, has no pillars and is entirely self-supporting.

Behind the historic chapel is a modern hall which is used for a wide range of community activities throughout the week.

All are welcome to the open day on Saturday 21 September, from 10am – 4pm.
There will be an exhibition of photographs of Porthcawl in the 1930s – showing the context in which the chapel was opened. There will be also be guided tours of the chapel, and refreshments and activities/games for younger visitors.

No booking required.
