Built in 1841, High Street Baptist Church is a Grade II listed building located on the High Street in Merthyr Tydfil.

Extensive repair and restoration works were completed recently, to preserve the heritage and history of one of the first English-speaking Baptist chapels in South Wales.

The church has a rich history, and this is well documented in the form of book records and exhibition display boards, as well as personal stories from members of the congregation, including the church historian.

In addition to the chapel, there is a schoolroom which is used regularly by the community.

For Open Doors, there will be guided tours of the chapel and some of the ‘hidden’ areas that have only been revealed when the recent building work was completed.

Heritage display boards and detailed records of minutes and membership records will be accessible, and the church historian will be on hand to answer any queries or questions. There will also be some music, children’s activities and refreshments.
