Community led, the Tywi Gateway Project is now restoring, re-connecting and rejuvenating the historic gardens and parkland of the Old Bishop's Palace, which for more than 400 years was the residence of the Bishop's of St Davids, and is now home to the Carmarthenshire County Museum. With its walled kitchen garden, pleasure grounds, ox-bow lake and flood plain meadow we are restoring this nationally important site, improving public access and making it better for wildlife while restoring the outbuildings of the Old Bishops Palace to create new visitor facilities including a learning space and café, due to open Spring 2021.
Sharing our Secret Garden. The Tywi Gateway Trust is opening the door of the Walled Kitchen Garden to reveal progress. You are invited to join Trust and Museum staff and volunteers to explore this beautiful and secluded garden. With exhibitions and guided tours find out about the garden's fruit and vegetable cultivation from Head Gardener Piers, come and taste our apples and pears, investigate the Parks wildlife and with Museum volunteers explore their book collection. Visit the early 19th century gatehouse lodge and check out what archaeologists on site have revealed.
