Open Doors - The Thermal Spring, Taff’s Well Park
The Thermal Spring, Taff’s Well Park, is Wales’s only thermal spring and is the smallest in the world. It is over 5,000 years old, and is visited by hundreds of visitors a year. The well is located in a beautiful park in Taff’s Well.
Currently there is work under way to use the water as a heat source to supply the nearby school and pavilion.
For Open Doors, there will be a lecture on the well and its new uses, old films about the well and local pictures, refreshments and books. Lunch will be available at the Taff’s Well Inn overlooking the park.
As the park pavilion is currently out of use due to a flood, the talks will be held at The Taff's Well and Nantgarw Community Hub - situated in the school next door to the Taff's Well Inn, adjacent to the nursery. CF15 7PR.
Talk title - Community Heat from Heritage: how modern technology is being used to fight climate change using the ancient waters from Taff's Well Thermal Spring.
Geologist Gareth Farr (BGS) and Jon Arryo (RCT Energy Manger) will talk about the history of the Taff's Well Thermal Spring - the only thermal spring in Wales - and how this mysterious water can be used to help fight one of the worlds most pressing challenges - climate change.
Gareth Farr has been involved with the well for over ten years, and has written a book about the well.
